An individual approach
Understanding communication needs.
Speech, language and communication skills are fundamental to learning, wellbeing and social interaction.
Our qualified speech and language therapists (SaLT) assess and support a range of communication needs, with intervention tailored to the individual.
Therapy can be delivered as part of a wider Compass programme and coordinated with teaching, mentoring and other relevant support.
Areas of support
Helping young people to communicate with confidence.
Intervention is tailored to each learner's needs and may include support with:
Understanding Language
Developing the understanding of spoken language, vocabulary and instructions.
Expressing Needs
Supporting verbal and non-verbal communication, including sentence structure, narrative and social communication.
Social Communication
Building confidence in conversation, turn-taking, friendships and appropriate interaction in different settings.
Educational Access
Developing the communication skills needed for successful participation in education and everyday life.
Assessment and therapy
Evidence-informed intervention.
Therapy begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand the learner's communication strengths, needs and functional difficulties across different settings.
A personalised intervention plan is then developed, with clear targets and strategies.
Progress is monitored and reviewed regularly, with activities integrated into the learner's education programme where appropriate.
Working together
A collaborative approach.
We work closely with schools, families and other professionals to ensure that therapy supports the learner's wider educational and personal development goals.
Strategies can be shared with teaching staff and family members to promote consistency across settings.
Where relevant, therapy can complement other interventions such as mentoring, therapeutic support or SEND provision.
Qualified therapists
Experienced and registered professionals.
Our speech and language therapy is delivered by qualified and registered therapists with experience of working with children and young people.
Practitioners hold relevant professional registration (RCSLT) and enhanced safeguarding checks. Specific qualifications and experience are confirmed for the individual therapist delivering the service.
